The 17th Kisoi Motohiro Award Ceremony (Remote)

 

On Friday the January14th 2022, International Rescue System Institute, due to the CORVID-19 pandamic, held the 17th Kisoi Motohiro Award Ceremony remotely following from last year from Nagata,Kobe an area damaged extensively by the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake 27 years before.

This year, the Kisoi Motohiro Award for Academic Achievement was awarded to Kyoto University Associate Professor Kei Hiroi of Disaster Prevention Research Institute. The Kisoi Motohiro Award for Technical Achievement was awarded to Mr. Toshinori Kagawa, Chief Researcher of Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry.

These awards recognise the outstanding achievements of Associate Professor Hiroi’s “Research and development of open platform ARIA for advanced disaster prevention ICT”, and Chief Researcher Kagawa’s “Research and development of multi-hop wireless system to extend the communication range of disaster response robots”.
The recipients of the Kisoi Motohiro Awards for Academic Achievement and Technical Achievement each receive 100,000 yen prize money, a certificate and a commemorative trophy presented by Executive Committee Chairman Fumiyoshi Matsuno.

The recipients of the IEEE RSJ IROS 2021 Best Paper Award on Safety Security and Rescue Robotics in memory of Motohiro Kisoi received their award online which was held last September in Praha, but the commendation ceremony was held again today. The recipients are Professor Makoto Kumon of Kumamoto University, and vising researcher of Waseda University and also the Emeritus Professor of Kyoto University Mr. Hiroshi Okuno, and Mr. Shuichi Tajima, who completed a master’s degree at Kumamoto University.

The recipients of the awards for encouragement, which focus on the younger generation are as follows. Robocup Junior IRS Award to “Littlegigant” from Wakayama Koyo High School. Rescue Robot Spirit Award Winner from Tokushima University, Robot Contest Project “Tokufai!”. Encouragement of the Study of Rescue Robotic to Tanakashi Takuro of The University of Electro-Communications. After the award ceremony, the winners of each award announced their award-winning research themes on Live.

The ceremony closed with a commemorative lecture on the award given by Academic Achievement Winner Assistant Prof. Hiroi, Technical Achievement Winner Mr. Kagawa, and IEEE RSJ IROS 2021 Best Paper Award on Safety Security and Rescue Robotics in memory of Motohiro Kisoi Winner Mr. Kumon.
