The 11th Kisoi Motohiro Award Ceremony

On Wednesday the 13th January 2016, International Rescue System Institute held the 11th Kisoi Motohiro Award Ceremony in Nagata, Kobe, an area damaged extensively by the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake 23 years before.

The winner of the 11th Kisoi Motohiro Award for Academic Achievement is Okayama University Graduate School’s Prof. Kamegawa Tetsushi.

The winner of the 11th Kisoi Motohiro Award for Techinical Achievement is Nagaoka University of Technology’s Prof. Kimura Tetsuya.

These awards recognise the remarkable achievements of Prof. Kamegawa’s ”Research into Serpintine Robots with variable mobility and forms”, and Prof. Kimura’s “Facilitate Development of Disaster Relief Robotics through Standardization Activities”.

This year, in recognition of their major contribution to robotic engineering, and achievements in the implementation of rescue robotics, Hirose Shigeo, Chairman of HiBot corp. and professor emiritus at Tokyo Inst. of Technology, was presented with the Award for Academic and Technical Contribution.

Recipients of the Award for Academic Achievement, and Techincal Achievement were presented with 100,000 yen prize money, a certificate, and a commemorative trophy, (created by Art Glass Club). Recipients of the Award for Academic and Technical Contribution recieved 30,000 yen, a certificate, and commemorative plaque.

In addition, the Award for Encouragement, aimed at the younger generation, was introduced. The winners of the RoboCup Junior IRS are “AFG”‘s Mr. Kudo Soma, Mr. Usui Takeyaki, Mr. Koyama Shuta. The winner of the Rescue Robot Contest Award is Osaka Inst. of Technology MONOLAB Robot Project “Daikodai Engineer”, and the Award for the Study of Rescue Robotics went to Mr. Ichimura tomoya of Tohoku University.

Finally, lectures were given by the recipients of the Award for Academic and Technical Contribution, Academic Achievement, and Techincal Achievement on the subjects of their research.

The ceremony closed with a warm applause for Prof. Kamegawa, Prof. Kimura and Prof. Hirose’s highly acclaimed achievements in the research and development of rescue robot systems, and for the winners of the Award of Encouragement of whom we expect will make great contributions in the future of rescue robotics.
